2 pounds beef stew meat, cubed

2 Tablespoons olive oil

1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium onion, chopped

1 or 2 bay leaves

¾ teaspoons Italian seasonings

1 Tablespoons salt

½ teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon sugar

6 carrots, peeled and quartered

4 potatoes, peeled, quartered

3 Tablespoons flour (for gravy)

In a large, deep pot, brown meat in olive oil.  Add 2 cups hot water and all ingredients, except vegetables and flour.  Cover and simmer 1 ½ hours.  Stir occasionally.  Remove bay leaves if desired and add vegetables.  Cover and cook 30-45 minutes until vegetables are tender.  Combine 3 Tablespoons flour with 1/3 cups cold water in a shaker and slowly add to hot stew mixture.  Cook and stir until bubbly.

About 6 servings.
